a summery haze of dreamy downbeat laced with starry guitars & sitars [best enjoyed with a margarita]
Jorgia Brodsky, aka DJ Daisy, eases us into a lazy new year with an eclectic expedition that traverses the sonic spectrum. Expect beautiful music from Dousk, Groove Armada, William Orbit, Kevin Yost, Las Ketchup and many more.
Could you please tell us a little bit about your own musical journey? How and when did the music bug bite you and when did that lead to DJing? I never really thought of myself as being bitten by the music bug, though I have always been a ‘repeat offender,’ as in I will absolutely obsess over a song and listen to it over and over again, until I’ve used up every last drop of its emotion. It soon dies to me and will rise again when enough time passes for me to feel some nostalgia for it.
My music interests stem from my moody and emotional self. I’m always attracted to how a song makes me feel and have found that if a song has any kind of beautiful instrument or whaling voice over a beat, it’s guaranteed I’ll love it. That’s when I realised I could do it myself. Being able to mix and DJ has given me a lot of freedom to combine all the things I love about music. If a song ever feels hectic or uncomfortable, I can now just add some windchime!
How did you decide to approach your lazydaze mix? Was there a feeling or track that initially sparked inspiration? I was attempting to go for guitars and margaritas at the surf camp vibe. But as it usually pans out for me, it’s now a bit more of salsa, sitar and sand at the Ibiza chillout lounge, hosted by varying guitars. I am happy about that, though!
Any favourite tracks or moments in there for you? The Ketchup Song.
What setup did you record the mix on? Pioneer DDJ-400. It’s the same size as my cat and I love it equally to my cat!
What were some of your favourite live music experiences of 2022? Glass Beams and Sleep D at The Forum, Glass Beams at The Howler and Glass Beans at Hopkins Creek. I love Glass Beams!
Also, Santilli at Music for Breakfast in the Northern Rivers. And Darcy Justice at Hopkins Creek for her nostalgic throwdowns.
It’s a chill Sunday afternoon at home. What album are you reaching for? Santilli – ‘Surface’, or Madonna – ‘Ray Of Light’.
What can we expect from DJ Daisy in 2023? Any gigs lined up? No DJ gigs planned, but I have a mix coming up on Mood Support soon and have recently released two mixes - one for the Mind Expansions program on Area 3000 Radio and one for The Smoker’s Lounge Episode 48.
