dreamy house and melodic breakbeat FROM AUSTRALIAN ELECTRONIC MUSIC ROYALTY.
One of Australia’s longest serving and finest selectors, Robbie Lowe has spent almost a quarter of a century firing up dance floors at home and abroad. For his entry into the lazydaze series, the Sydneysider shows off his contemplative side with a collection of dreamy house to soundtrack summer beach dayze.

You’ve almost clocked up a staggering 25 years behind the decks. What do you enjoy most about your profession and what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career? Number 1 is obviously the music. It’s such a thrill being able to play music I love, making people dance and feel good. I also love the excitement before each gig. The biggest lesson would probably be not being in tune with my body and looking after myself, physically and mentally. There was a period when I wasn’t really doing this, but now I have a great balance of all the good stuff I need!
How did you decide to approach your mix? Was there a concept behind it? I imagined sitting at the beach and listening to the tunes I’d like to hear. There’s some dreamy and atmospheric moments that give me good vibes that I can drift away to. I could of gone in a few directions, but this is the sound I was feeling at the time. Part of that is an influence from my visit to Cloud 9 in Fiji last month.
Are there any particularly special tracks or moments in there for you? I love the first tune, Soul II Soul’s Camdino Soul - it comes with a lot of nostalgia for me. I also really like the closing track, Routine by Skee Mask. Really loving this artist at the moment and have saved this tune for a special mix like this.
What is your all time favourite home listening track and mix compilation? Track is possibly Papa Was A Rolling Stone by The Temptations, or something from Bent, St Germain, Bob Marley, Prince, or Air. Mix compilation…Danny Howells’ GU 24/7 is definitely up there. Especially Disc 1 - it’s a masterpiece and very ahead of its time.
What ever happened to the chill out room in clubs and is it due a comeback? Good question. I hope so. Let’s start the trend at Stanley’s in a couple weeks!
What’s on the cards for Robbie Lowe in 2020? Business as usual. Lots of great gigs and travel on the horizon. Bring it on!
