A kaleidoscopic journey into sound…
One of Asia’s finest exports in electronic music, Sunju Hargun, gets the lazydaze series under way with a gorgeous mix full of Moodwax productions and edits - a long-running side project displaying his more contemplative side.

What was the objective behind your Moodwax project?
When I started this project seven years ago it was all about having a fun creative outlet with endless possibilities and no limitations. Moodwax has been living a beautiful journey throughout these years and is constantly evolving and re-introducing itself over time, which I feel is an important part of its growth.
How did you decide to approach the mix? Any favourite tracks or moments in there for you?
After taking a two year break to meditate on my music and try to develop a new direction in sound, I resurfaced in 2016 with a body of new material. This mix is a journey of 100% Moodwax music, consisting of singles and edits that I had made over the period from 2015-2016. It’s the chance to hear that collection of music in a mix format.
What draws you towards making this style of music?
Nature.
Have you found there is a growing appetite in the scene for this music to be experienced in a live setting?
I guess for what I’m trying to develop, there is certainly potential for this music to be experienced in a live setting, but for maximum impact it should be surrounded by nature, preferably nearby a waterfall somewhere deep in the jungle!
Which artists inspire you in the ambient/downbeat/electronica realm?
Difficult to say, but if i have to pick three, they would be Hiroshi Yoshimura, Nils Frahm and Max Cooper.
Can you highlight an all-time favourite track, LP or mix compilation from this space?
Recently, I would have to say the Four Tet album 'New Energy' has been on repeat several times already. It’s pretty special.
Can we expect any forthcoming Moodwax releases?
There are a few new remixes, singles and EPs scheduled to be coming out in the next few months. Apart from that I have about thirty tracks sitting on my hard drive that need to be revisited, so hopefully we can see an album on the horizon. I do have a new special series of edits i’m working on and that will be available on my Bandcamp sometime in January 2019 for free download.
